National Semiconductor has opened a new power application design centre at Fuerstenfeldbruck near Munich to strengthen application and system support services for engineers designing power supplies and power management systems.

“As power supply solutions get more and more complex, the need for application support and design grows exponentially,” said John Phelps, vice-president and general manager for National Semiconductor, Europe.

National said the new centre is equipped with the latest measurement and testing devices, layout and simulation software and equipment for milling and soldering PCBs. At the centre, developers will be able to create power designs ranging from a few watts to 1kW for output voltages ranging from less than 1V to several hundred volts, and for currents up to and exceeding 100A.

Arrangements with selected vendors allow the centre to support designers using non-National high-voltage and power components.
