EngineeringUK, formerly the Engineering Technology Board which promotes engineering in the UK, has appointment of Dr Paul Golby as its new chairman.

Dr Golby, who has been chief executive of E.ON UK since 2002, takes over the role in September and succeeds Sir Anthony Cleaver.

“It’s absolutely clear to me that engineering is fundamental to the re-building of Britain’s economy,” said Dr Golby, following the appointment.

According to the EngineeringUK’s own figures, the manufacturing sector needs to recruit over half a million engineering and manufacturing workers with by 2017.

“The work undertaken by EngineeringUK to promote engineering and engineers has an ever more critical role to play in achieving this,” said Dr Golby.

According to Paul Jackson, chief executive of EngineeringUK: “Dr Golby will be joining EngineeringUK to build on the transformational work undertaken by Sir Anthony Cleaver over the past three years”.

“He has the skills and true passion for engineering that I am certain will help take the organisation from strength to strength,” said Jackson.
