Nokia executive to drive global expansion at Wolfson

Wolfson Microelectronics has appointed former Nokia and Symbian executive Andy Brannan as chief commercial officer.

Brannan was most recently v-p of Nokia’s SOSCO business, which was acquired through the mobile phone firm's acquisition of Symbian.

He was eight years at Symbian Software, where he was executive v-p of sales & customer operations where he was responsible for Symbian’s global relationships with mobile device manufacturers and network operators.

"I am delighted that we have recruited someone of Andy's calibre to our senior management team," said Mike Hickey, CEO of Wolfson.

"He will play an integral role in expanding our market share across all our product lines," said Hickey.

The Edinburgh-based mixed-signal chip firm is bidding to widen its customer base and change its focus away from the more volatile consumer markets such as MP3 players.

The consumer side of its chip business has been badly hit by falling demand for its ICs in the consumer market.
