Energizer has introduced prismatic zinc air primary cells for portable electronics.
Capacity is claimed to be three times that of Li-ion and alkaline technology.
"We have been working with our OEM partners for several years to refine this battery technology for use in a variety of portable consumer electronic devices and are planning a retail market launch in the summer of 2010," said company marketing director Jon Eager.
Zinc air cells, which have been used in hearing aids for many years, save weight by breathing atmospheric oxygen.
"Energizer is developing simple and cost effective air management solutions to enable the use of this battery technology in a wide range of portable electronic devices," claimed the firm, which is holding OEM design seminars London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris in mid-October.
There are three cells, all with a nominal 1.4V output.
* PP255 22.6x10.3x5.0mm 3.4g 720mAh (72 hour discharge)
* PP355 32.2 x 14.7 x 5.2 mm 6.8g 1.8Ah (90 hour discharge)
* PP425 36.0x22.0x5.2 11.7g 3.6Ah (90 hour discharge)
