Intersil signs Avnet Memec in Europe

Intersil has signed up chip distributor Avnet Memec to sell its full range of analogue and power management products in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

"Intersil has worked hard to embed themselves with many of our semiconductor partners as the analogue, mixed-signal semiconductor and power management supplier of choice and our customers across Europe will appreciate the delivery of proven technical solutions,” said Steve Haynes, President Avnet Memec Europe

In June, Intersil's CEO Dave Bell told Electronics Weekly that the semiconductor industry is clearly on a full recovery path from the 2008-9 downturn.

"The world's top 20 OEMs are predicting an increase in semiconductor spending to about $178bn this year, a 13% increase from the $157bn spent in 2009. The top 20 companies will account for $104bn  -  about 58% of all semiconductor spending worldwide. So a recovery is clearly underway. But what kind of recovery should we expect?" said Bell.

Last month, Avnet group saw record sales growth in the European components distribution market as it ended the financial year with a strong quarter.

The distributor is seeing a “V-shaped cyclical recovery in the technology markets”, with group sales for the year as a whole 18% higher at $19.16bn.

"We’ve chosen Avnet Memec as our distributor in Europe due to their extensive team of technical sales and field application engineers that is well suited to help us bring complete solutions to the growing European market,” said Robert Pfister, v-p sales Europe for Intersil
