Avago buys Infineon RF filter design team

Avago Technologies has acquired Infineon Technologies’ Munich-based bulk acoustic wave business for around €21.5m in cash.

The business develops high precision RF filters for wireless applications.

The acquisition provides Avago with an IP portfolio and R&D team in Munich, Germany. The company said this development team will stop development of the BAW products and will now focus on building upon Avago's existing film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) filter product portfolio.

“The acquisition of Infineon’s BAW business is in line with Avago’s commitment to strengthening our position in the analog RF wireless market,” said Bryan Ingram, senior v-p and general manager of Avago’s wireless semiconductor division.

“The Infineon team pioneered BAW filter design and manufacturing techniques, which are complementary to our existing FBAR filter technologies,” said Ingram.
