Plextek claims it can reduce development time for embedded systems such as in-car multimedia systems with a customisable core processor-based reference design.
Based on a Freescale iMX31 processor incorporating an ARM11 core running the WinCE 6.0 R2 operating system, the module comes with a full board support package (BSP) to speed integration into automotive and consumer applications.
“The module has great potential to fulfill the needs of many diverse potential customers, especially those looking to achieve shorter development cycles for products requiring complex connected functionality and ultimately, rapid time to market,” said Gerard Smith, director of the software systems group at Plextek.
Along with the iMX31 processor there is a 3D graphics engine and Atlas power management IC. There is 128Mbyte mobile DDR RAM, 64Mbyte NAND flash, UART, SD, USB 2.0 and 18-bit RGB LCD interfaces.
The BSP includes power management support. The module also supports 16-bit PCM, AAC, MP3, WMA audio CODECS and a wide range of video CODECS including: MPEG-1 Part 2, MPEG-2 Part 2, H.263, MPEG-4 Part 2, MPEG-4 Part 10 (H.264, AVC), DivX and WMV.
Plextek will also customise the module’s form factor and interfaces for other targets.
