Agilent Technologies’ EEsof EDA division is developing a 3D modelling tool for RF antenna and circuit design at its R&D centre in Ghent, Belgium.
The expansion of the design firm’s 3D modelling software into the area of RF design follows the licensing of electro-magnetic simulation technology from US firm Remcom.
According to Neil Martin, marketing manager at EEsof EDA, the research group at Ghent is being expanded top become a centre of excellence for 3D electro-magnetic tool design.
As well as antenna design, the firm is also developing a suite of tools for analysing signal integrity in a wide-range of signal processing designs. “The market is growing and the definition of what we call RF design is changing,” Martin told
EW.
The new tools will be based on the finite difference time domain (FDTD) technology licensed from Remcom. It is used to measure and analyse the mechanical constraints on RF antenna design. Martin said the technology can also be used for signal integrity modelling in multi-processor systems.
