Marconi is giving a major boost to the engineering skills-base with the creation of 400 jobs earmarked mainly for engineering graduates.
The firm said 200 jobs would be created at sites in Nottingham and Coventry, another 100 in Liverpool, Lincoln and Stafford and a 100 around London and the South of England. Marconi lans to have recruited the graduates by the summer of this year.
"The prospective graduates will bring to our environment fresh ideas and the ability to react quickly, which is critical in this new market... Sixty five per cent of our opportunities are in engineering or technically related," Alison Munn, Marconi's graduate recruitment manager, told Electronics Weekly.
"It is absolutely critical in our organisation and our business that we bring in young, fresh blood and new ideas," added Munn.
All of the 400 graduate recruits will follow Marconi's new professional development programme, a two-year scheme that aims to give graduates further technical training and business skills.
The firm also plans to recruit another 350 graduates outside of the UK to add to its current total worldwide work force of around 45,000.
