Is confidence coming back to the UK's stumbling manufacturing sector?
New data from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) indicates the first reason for hope for more than a year.
There is also evidence that the UK economy could emerge from recession faster than other parts of Europe.
Manufacturing production levels actually increased in July and new order levels rose for the first time since March 2008.
The CIPS/Markit manufacturing-purchasing index rose to 50.8 in July, this is significant because it is over the 50 point which is the no-change baseline.
While it is probably not wise to read too much in to one month's figures.
However, there must be some encouragement in these numbers and they result also confirm our own poll of component distributors last month which saw confidence levels starting to turn around.
Component distributors in the UK are more confident about business prospects than at any time in the last three months.

The data from the rest of Europe is far less hopeful with the euro-zone manufacturing-purchasing-managers' index still below the 50 point at 46.3 in July.
Yet this too was a significant increase on the figure for June.
