The worldwide semiconductor market grew 0.7% in August from July as strong demand in tablets and personal computers drove the slight increase, according to the SIA.
Sales rose to $25.03bn in August, a 2.2% rise from a year earlier.
"Growth in these areas is encouraging, however lower consumer and industrial demand across a wide range of products and markets is keeping overall sales lower than expected at this point," President Brian Toohey said.
The Asia Pacific market saw the greatest sequential monthly increase, 1.1%, as Japan sales improved amid recovery efforts and output from fabrication facilities after the natural disaster earlier this year.
The Americas posted the biggest decline with 1.6% fewer sales in August, compared with July.
