Filtronic has agreed to sell its defence electronics business to Teledyne, a subsidiary of US-based Teledyne Technologies, for £13m.
The defence electronics business, which is based in Shipley, Yorkshire, manufactures customised RF, microwave and millimetre wave components and subsystems.
UK-based Filtronic has been divesting businesses as it restructures its various electronics businesses. It started in 2006 with the sale of the power amplifier business and last December, Filtronic sold its Newton Aycliffe-based compound semiconductor business to RF Micro Devices for £12.5m in cash.
In the twelve months ended 31 May 2008, the defence electronics business generated £14.5m of revenues and £1.3m of operating profit.
As at 31 May 2008, Filtronic’s Defence Electronics business had gross assets of £7.4m.
Filtronic will now focus on its point-to-point microwave system business.
The sale is subject to customary closing conditions and to the Secretary of State for Defence not referring the transaction to the Office of Fair Trading before the date of completion.
The transaction is expected to complete by the end of August 2008.
