The platform, codenamed Moorestown, consists of an Atom Z6xx series microcontroller (Lincroft) and an MP20 companion chip (Langwell), and is designed to scale across high-end smartphones and tablets computers.

Notebooks are taken care of by the recently introduced Pine Trial Atoms.

In the 140 million transistor 45nm Z6xx series is an x86 core (512k L2 cache, 24k L1 data cache, 32k L1 instruction cache), a 3D graphics processor from Imagination Technologies, video encode/decode, a memory controller, and a display controller.

The Platform Controller Hub MP20 integrates blocks for: NAND flash control, audio processing, camera interface, USB OTG interface, security processing and wireless.

Mooretown is accompanied by a dedicated mixed signal IC (Briertown) to handle power, charging and audio driving.

Finer grained operating system power management, to work with new power management hardware on the three chips, has been included to cut dissipation .

Software including Android, Moblin v2.1 and MeeGo is supported.

Z6xx processor (Lincroft)

1.5GHz for handhelds and smartphones, 1.9GHz for tablets.

GMA 600 2D/3D graphics with up to 400MHz core, support for OpenGL ES2.0, Open GL 2.1, and OpenVG 1.1, and hardware-accelerated HD video decode (MPEG4 part 2, H.264, WMV & VC1) and encode (MPEG4 part2, H.264). Internal display up to 1366x768 LVDS or 1024x600 MIPI supported.

Integrated memory controller operates through a single 32-bit channel and supports LPDDR1 200MHz up to 1Gbyte, and DDR2 400MHz up to 2Gbyte.

Hyper-threading for multi-threaded applications.

Power management enables the core and the rest of Lincroft to switch off while the operating system remains in the S0 (ON) state, taking advantage of clock and power gating across 19 hardware islands.

Package is 13.8x13.8x1.1mm FCMBA (flip-chip molded ball grid array)

MP20 platform controller hub (Langwell)

Power management hardware is included to link with operating system.

Hardware and software security acceleration compliant with AES, DES, 3DES, RSA, ECC, SHA-1/2, and DRM. Support for 1,000 bits of OTP and secure boot.

24bit audio DSP for voice processing and supports MP3, AAC-LC, HE-AAC v1 & v2, WMA9 and PCM codecs.

USB & USB OTG up to 480Mbit/s

Mixed signal IC (Briertown) - supplied by Freescale, Maxim and Renesas.

Integrates LDO regulators, dc-dc regulators, battery charging, audio codecs, touch screen controller, sensors, and GPIO.

Multiple voltage rails provided for power gating on the other two chips.

Wireless - Wi-Fi, 3G, and WiMAX

3G support for ST-Ericsson's M340 discrete solution for data+voice, and Ericsson's C3607w module for data.

Wi-Fi support with Marvell 8688

GPS support with Infineon Hammerhead.

Partnered with SNR Labs to support handover from 3G to Wi-Fi and vice versa, and Rx Networks to support advanced GPS functions.

Software

Support for Android, Moblin v2.1 and MeeGo v1.0

Middleware

Support for Adobe Flash, AIR, and Microsoft Silverlight.

Media frameworks and players

Fluendo GStreamer and Real Networks Helix, Discretix DRM including WM-DRM, OMA Video and Audio, Redbend device management, SNRLabs Connection Manager, and full telephony framework.

Custom applications

Versions of Scalado for managing high- resolution photos, Aricent video suite, Axel Fuugo Internet TV, World of Warcraft via Crossover, NDrive 3D navigation, Vidyo multi-point video conferencing and Skype VoIP.
