The Manufacturing Institute has launched a £115,000 educational scholarship fund with the aim of creating the “elite industry leaders required to drive the UK’s future manufacturing economy”.
The Institute will award scholarships on its Diploma in Manufacturing and MSc in Manufacturing Leadership.
“UK industry needs to seek competitive advantage through knowledge and people,” said Dr Julie Madigan, chief executive of the Institute.
“If businesses are to compete against the 50 cent an hour workforce of China and productive powerhouses of the US, they need to differentiate themselves as smart and nimble operators driven by highly skilled innovators who can provide niche, value-added products with higher profit margins.”
Both educational programmes are designed to minimise workplace disruption, with the MSc based mainly around interactive e-learning.
