Apple's iPhone outsold all smart phones in the US during July, and equalled the sales of the most popular feature phone, according to market watcher iSuppli.

The Apple iPhone accounted for 1.8 per cent of all US mobile handset sales during July.

The market research firm originally predicted that 4.5 million iPhones would ship in 2007, rising to more than 30 million units in 2011.

The iPhone's US sales in July were equal to those of the most popular feature phone, LG's Chocolate.

The two iPhone models on sale in July accounted for 1.8 per cent of all mobile-handset unit sales to US customers during the month.
