Micron CEO Steve Appleton dies in plane crash

Micron Technology announced earlier today that Steven R. Appleton, longtime Micron chairman and CEO died in a plane accident in Boise on February 3.

The company said "Steve's passion and energy left an indelible mark on Micron, the Idaho community and the technology industry at large".

"We are deeply saddened by Steve's loss and will miss his hand at the helm," said Mark Durcan who has been appointed as CEO of the semiconductor company.

"Mark has been instrumental in Micron's success in his role as president and COO and has garnered the respect of the company, his team members and the industry at large," said Robert Switz, the newly appointed chairman of the board.

Durcan, 51, has served as president and chief operating officer of Micron since 2007 and earlier served as Micron's chief technology officer. He joined the company in 1984.
