Cree aims LED modules at old-school lamp makers

To help light fitting makers that lack LED experience, Cree has developed a line of modules.

Each contains LEDs, drive electronics, optics and primary thermal management.

"We are introducing a class of products designed to accelerate the adoption of LED lighting by traditional lighting fixture manufacturers," said the Cree.

The first family member is the 12W LMR4, which delivers 700 lm at 2,700K (warm-white).

Produced under Cree's TrueWhite brand, multiple coloured LEDs fill out the spectrum to achieve a colour rendering index (CRI) of 90.

Design life is 35,000 hours.

"Fixture manufacturers have the option to include a specially designed heat sink to accommodate high-heat applications like down lights for insulated ceilings," said Cree.

There are two versions, one for 120V and one for 230V.

"Fixture makers seeking ENERGY STAR qualification will have access to specification and performance data, including LM-80 reports, which can speed regulatory approvals," said Cree.

General availability is planned for the summer, and sample evaluation kits are available now.
