Rambus is looking for licensees for its mobile XDR interface. The interface delivers 4X the bandwidth of the LPDDR2 interface for the same power – 2.2mW/Gbps.
Licensees could either be DRAM companies or companies which make wireless chip-sets.
The mobile XDR interface was launched in February. So far there have been no-takers, even at the lowered Rambus pricing structure agreed with the EU which sees its licensing fees coming in at under 2%.
“We now have 1-2% fees which people feel is reasonable,” Tim Messegee, Rambus vp marketing told EW, “we hope to have some licences this year.”
A kinder, gentler Rambus is moving away from its litigious past.
“There will always be war, but you don’t always have to be fighting World War II,” said Messegee, “a lot of the high intensity litigation is getting wrapped up. We have agreements with the EU and FTC. We’ve set a path to get out of the high-intensity level of litigation.”
