Nujira, the mobile basestation and handset power technology firm has appointed Patrick McNamee to its first v-p of silicon operations.

The appointment indicates Nujira’s growing ambition to be a semiconductor supplier.

The Cambridge-based firm’s Envelope Tracking technology for optimizing the power consumption of mobile basestations was initially developed as a module for basestations.

In the last two years the company has integrated the technology into silicon for use in mobile phone handsets.

"Nujira’s vision is to install its Coolteq wideband Envelope Tracking technology into 800 million energy efficient 3G and 4G devices over the next 5 years," said Tim Haynes, Nujira’s CEO.

"This new appointmen is central to our delivery of that vision. Patrick has all the key skills and experience required for setting up and managing a successful fabless manufacturing operation, said Haynes.

"I’m excited to be joining Nujira’s executive team and am looking forward to successfully getting Coolteq Envelope Tracking silicon devices to market," said McNamee.

Patrick McNamee joins Nujira from EoSemi, a UK based chip start-up. Before this he worked with Powervation, a fabless digital power IC company, as well as with Cambridge Silicon Radio and Dialog Semiconductor.

Earlier in his career, Patrick held test and product development positions at senior engineer level with National Semiconductor and GEC Plessey. He is a Director and Board Member of the National Microelectronics Institute (NMI).
