CD manufacturer creates 77 jobs in South Wales News teamAn optical disc manufacturer is creating 77 jobs in South Wales with the establishment of a manufacturing plant in the Swansea Valley.
MCS Manufacturing is investing £7.4m in the facility on the Ynyscedwyn Enterprise Park which will produce pre-recorded compact discs for uses as CD-Roms, DVD, Video CDs and audio CDs for major record companies, magazine publishers, and games publishers.
“This will be one of the most modern production facilities of its kind in the country,” MCS managing director, Claude Suppiah.
The production facility will have the capacity, in its first phase, to produce over 34 million discs per year.
Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan approved a £1.2m regional assistance grant to support the investment. “Ystradgynlais is still in the throes of recovery from the hundreds of job losses two and a half years ago when Lucas-SEI moved to Poland. Creating a more diverse, more secure and better economic future for the upper Swansea Valley has been a high priority for the Welsh Assembly Government,” said Morgan.
According to Welsh Development Agency executive director, Dr Geraint Davies: “The provision of 77 jobs within the high-tech sector is excellent news for Ystradgynlais and that part of the Swansea Valley which has suffered considerable job losses in traditional industries over recent years.”
“The Agency is continuing to seek further new investments in the area as well as supporting existing businesses to grow and provide new opportunities,” he added.
