Fabless chip firm Frontier Silicon is making its move into the
Asia-Pacific market after establishing an early lead in the
European market for DAB chips.
This week Samsung is to show a device for terrestrial digital
multimedia broadcasting (TDMB), or mobile TV services and is to
begin trials in Korea of the devices.
The device has a Frontier Silicon designed DAB chip in it, the
Chorus IC.
Frontier also said it is targeting the market for DAB digital
radio and DVB-T digital terrestrial broadcasting in Taiwan. Apache
Communication has been appointed as representative for the firm in
Taiwan.
Over one million of the Chorus IC devices have been shipped,
with Sony the latest firm to use Frontier's chips.
Anthony Sethill, chief executive officer of Frontier Silicon
said: "Within just two years, Chorus (and the Chorus-based Venice
module) has now become the industry standard for digital radio
products - in handheld, kitchen radio, and emerging in-car audio
systems."
