Autosar platform targets advanced electronic engine control

NEC Electronics and Vector has announced availability of an Autosar 3.0 compatible software package for various hardware platforms.

Aimed at automotive designs the companies are offering hardware independent Autosar basic software modules from Vector, including the operating system, memory management and communication functions for FlexRay systems and CAN and LIN bus systems.

NEC is providing the AUTOSAR microcontroller abstraction layer (MCAL), which acts as an interface between the software and hardware.

Autosar (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) comes from a worldwide development partnership of car manufacturers; car part suppliers; and electronics, semiconductor and software companies.

But there is a view that its complexity doesn't necessarily simplify the design process which leads to the need for new tool support.

“The availability of a seamless tool chain from high level system and application design down to optimised hardware-dependent MCAL software simplifies and accelerates the integration process for the electronic control unit manufacturers” said Volker Ebner, director embedded software at Vector.
