Samsung LCD display no thicker than credit card

Samsung claims to have produced the world’s thinnest display using an LCD panel.

“It is no thicker than a credit card at 0.82mm, which is 0.07mm thinner than the panel previously reported to be the world’s slimmest,” claimed Samsung.

The firm also has a technology called ‘i-Lens’ for integrating the panel including protective layer into phones. “In deploying i-Lens technology, manufacturers can trim 1.4 to 2.4mm from the thickness of a mobile phone,” said Samsung.

QVGA (320x240) versions from 2.1 to 2.2in. with 300cd/sq. m brightness and a contrast ratio of 500:1 will be available from the second half of 2007.
