Renesas Electronics is working with SoftAtHome for a set-top box (STB) reference design targeting hybrid IPTV, terrestrial and satellite services.

The design combining a Renesas EMMA 3SL/P system-on-chip (SoC) with the SoftAtHome operating platform will be demonstrated at IBC in Amsterdam this week.

In effect it is a PVR-ready MPEG-4 HD Pay TV hardware and software development kit along with a set of software components, which include video, graphical user interfaces, security and network access.

“The collaboration with SoftAtHome paves the way to fully-convergent applications for service providers,” said Daniel Tanniere, general manager, communications and consumer business group at Renesas Electronics Europe.

The development and validation of the Renesas software wrapper between its APIs and SoftAtHome Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) will allow platform components for IPTV, HTML, DTT, OTT, DLNA and Application Store to run on the EMMA3SL/P hardware in high definition STBs.
