The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association promoting the use of near field communications (NFC) technology, has announced that Intel has upgraded its support for the body to sponsor level.
"Intel's decision to increase its level of involvement with the NFC Forum highlights the rising importance of NFC technology to our members and its value to consumers and businesses around the globe," said Koichi Tagawa, chairman of the NFC Forum.
Intel now gets a seat on the NFC Forum Board of Directors, which manages the organisation.
It will also have the opportuntiy to propose initiatives and participate in the NFC Forum testing and certification programme.
"Intel believes NFC has great potential to enhance user experiences via simplified and secure device interaction," said Ed Agis, Intel representative and new board member of the NFC Forum.
Other new associate members of the NFC Forum include: Huawei Technologies and Ricoh.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to contribute to its evolution and growth in adoption across multiple platforms," said Agis.
