AMD has launched its Turion 64 processor family for high-end
laptops, to compete against Intel’s established Pentium M
processor.
AMD Turion 64 is designed for thinner and lighter notebook PCs
and delivers longer battery life, enhanced security, and
compatibility with the latest graphics and wireless products.
"We have unleashed 64-bit mobile performance, allowing business
professionals and on-the-go consumers to explore the freedom of
mobile productivity with AMD Turion 64 mobile technology," said
Marty Seyer, AMD corporate vice-president and general manager for
the microprocessor business unit.
Fujitsu Siemens, Acer, BenQ and Packard Bell are among the first
PC manufacturers planning to use Turion in their machines.
Intel’s Pentium M processor is part of the established
Intel Centrino chipset which was launched more than two years ago
to make laptop wireless communications easier.
