Texas Instruments has introduced the DaVinci DMVA2 video processor for surveillance and security applications.
It is a higher performance version of the recently introduced DMVA1 video processor which supports up to 720p.
The DMVA2 has “three times the video performance over the DMVA1 video processor and is equipped with TI’s Smart Codec Technology, which provides up to five times the bit rate reduction for improved video quality and network bandwidth”, said the supplier.
The target application is for Internet-based surveillance camera systems. There is a complete IP camera reference design and free Linux IP camera application software with source code.
Based on the ARM926EJ-STM core, the device supports H.264 in high, main or base profiles 720p at 30 fps or 1080p 15 fps, plus secondary CIF stream.
There is also multi-codec support (MPEG-4, MPEG-2 MJPEG and VC1).
The processor will be sampling in 2Q.
