Dual ARM Cortex-A9 processors and a Mali GPU are at the heart of ST's most powerful TV and set-top box processor yet.

It is called FLI7680 and has been branded Newman Ultra.

Alongside the three ARM cores there are "dedicated audio and video decoders, a crypto processor and flexible composition engine", said the firm. "A software developer kit will provide support for open-source APIs [ application program interfaces] such as Linux TV."

Sampling is planned for this quarter, with production scheduled in Q4.
