ST-Ericsson has secured a design win with HTC, the manufacture of the first Android smartphones and its chipsets are being used in a range of smartphones for the booming China market.
"Smartphone adoption in China is skyrocketing and we're able to deliver a strong product line-up," said Fred Liu, chief operating officer, HTC.
Based on TD-SCDMA technology for the China market, the handsets being developed by the two companies are based on ST-Ericsson's M7210 chipset which is capable of dual-mode automatic handover between TD-HSPA and EDGE.
According to Pascal Langlois, chief sales and marketing officer at ST-Ericsson: "HTC has been a leading adopter of open operating systems and we are looking forward to further supporting its efforts in China."
