Plexus joins Alba in ScotlandChris Druce
The Alba Campus, based in West Lothian, Scotland, has welcomed another tenant in the form of the Plexus Technology Group.
The US company has established a conceptual design facility and is recruiting eight electronics and software engineers to man the site.
The facility includes a design area with meeting and presentation suites as well as a range of software design tools. It will be aimed at serving the medical, computing and industrial equipment markets and Plexus said it had already received customer enquiries.
“The new design facility provides Plexus with an important footprint to provide OEM customers in Europe with our state-of-the-art engineering design and product development services,” said Michael Verstegen, president of the Plexus Technology Group.
Plexus joins Epson, Spektra, Motorola, The Virtual Component Exchange and The Scottish Embedded Software Centre, amongst others, on the Alba Campus.
“Scotland now has a worldwide reputation for its expertise in electronic design and is seen by many as a technology hotspot,” said John Reekie, director of marketing for the Alba Centre.
Plexus has already opened a CAD and test development facility in Melrose, Scotland earlier this year.
This latest news will be welcomed in Scotland following Hewlett-Packard’s decision last week to cut 450 jobs at its PC and server manufacturing site in Erskine, near Glasgow.
