MPs have called for further research into the possible health risks of mobile phones, during a House of Commons debate on planning permission for telecoms masts.
“I should like the Government to do more research into the health aspect,” said John Horam, MP for Orpington. “There must be more research, and the Government should take a lead.”
Jo Swinson, MP for East Dunbartonshire, echoed the sentiment: “Further research is clearly required, for example, to ascertain the radiation effect of clusters of phone masts in a local area. That will become more important, as 3G technology requires more masts, so people will live close to several.”
Caution was advised by George Howarth, MP for Knowsley, North and Sefton, East. “The collection and analysis of scientific evidence should continue, and should be properly funded and taken seriously by the Government,” he said.
