SiliconBlue, which does low-power, low-cost, small package programmable logic for mobile applications, has migrated its parts to 40nm with a new family called ‘Los Angeles’.

Three members of the five member family (designated HX8K, HX4K and HX1K to denote the number of logic cells in each part)  move into production in Q4, with two members – the smallest (designated HX640) and the largest (HX16K) – moving into production in Q1 2012 and 2H 2012 respectively.

The 8K part is sampling now, and the 4K part samples next month.

Power ranges from 15μW for its 640 product to 150μW for its 16K product.

Package sizes range upwards from the 2.5mm x 2.5mm BGA for the 640 part to 8mm x 8mm for the 16K part.

Price ranges upwards from $1.99 for the 640 part in very high volume (millions).

SiliconBlue has shipped 7m programmable logic devices since starting up in 2006, and  expects to have shipped 10m by the end of the year.

The company recently completed its Series D funding round, raising $18m which, it hopes, should be enough to take it through to IPO.
