ProVision Communications has appointed Matthew Trowbridge as chairman and member of the board, replacing founding director, Professor David Bull.
Trowbridge joins the Bristol-based company from Renesas Technology Europe.
“ProVision has created a world beating technology that can reliably and robustly stream multiple HDTV signals throughout an entire home using WiFi,” said Trowbridge.
“Many in our industry thought this was not possible,” said Trowbridge.
He said that the company was now in the process of changing from a technology developer to a revenue generating licensing company.
In January, ProVision was at CES in Las Vegas demonstrating its HD real-time video streaming technology.
The system, called AXAR1500, streams HD video content from a Blu-ray player, PVR or HD set top box to AXAR enabled TVs or Wi-Fi connected PCs and mobile phones throughout the home.
AXAR1500 combines proprietary techniques with open technology standards for video-encoding, video packet transfer and wireless broadcast; H.264, RTSP/RTP and 802.11n.
“Streaming live TV presents unique challenges and requires an in-depth knowledge of both wireless networks and video systems,” said ProVision’s CEO, Steve Cliffe.
Trowbridge was managing director and chief executive officer at Renesas Technology Europe and was appointed as chairman in 2009.
Earlier this month Renesas Technology merged with NEC Electronics to form a new company called Renesas Electronics.
