DoCoMo deploys Gemalto technology for secure 4G services

Gemalto has said that NTT DoCoMo will deploy its LTE technology in the Japanese operator’s next-generation mobile communications service which will be called Xi.

Representing Japan’s first mobile service based on LTE (long term evolution) 4G mobile technologies, it   covers the major urban centers of Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.

The aim is to have LTE network coverage for 70% of the Japanese population by March 2015.

Gemalto provides security technology for multimedia services which will be offered over the LTE network.

According to Tan Teck-Lee, president Gemalto Asia: “DoCoMo is leading the introduction of LTE in Japan.”

Over the next three years, more than 15 million DoCoMo mobile subscribers will move to LTE services.
