Scipher merges displays firms under CRL Opto name Richard BallDisplay technology firm MicroPix Technologies has been renamed CRL Opto, it is the final merger stage of the two display technology companies of Scipher.
Scipher organised the Hayes, Middlesex-based CRL Opto and MicroPix in Dalgety, Scotland under joint management earlier this year. Both sites will continue to operate, said the firm.
The MicroPix name will remain on the firm’s ferroelectric liquid crystal-on-silicon products.
"Our product offering to customers has grown to include reflective as well as transmissive microdisplays," said Greg Truman, the firm’s MD.
“We are exploring new types of displays including the development of microdisplays that use no polarisers for use in direct view applications,” he added.
Alongside microdisplays, CRL Opto said there is increasing interest in custom liquid crystal shutters. These are used in ophthalmic instruments, optical inspection systems and autostereo displays.
