Elonics has appointed two representative and distributor agencies to cover Taiwan and Korea.

The Livingston-based supplier of CMOS TV tuner chips will be represented by Vitec Taiwan and in Korea by Eastel.

“Elonics now has local presence within key geographies as we bring our first product to market,” said CEO of Elonics, David Srodzinski.

That first product is a low power DVB-T/H terrestrial broadcast radio frequency (RF) tuner, which runs off just 105mW in continuous mode and 13mW in time sliced mode.

“This makes it ideal for the emerging worldwide digital TV market,” said Srodzinski.

“The production launch of the E4000 also represents a very significant step forward for Elonics, marking the transition to a fully fledged product manufacturing operation,” said Srodzinski.

The low power RF chip benefits from being fabbed on a 130nm CMOS process.

It has been designed with an input frequency range from 64MHz to 1700MHz and can be re-configured in software to support additional broadcast standards in the VHF, UHF and L bands.

According to Srodzinski, this is important for digital TV as there is a profusion of standards across the world.  It means that manufacturers can use a single tuner across the globe, allowing them to cut development time and costs.
