Carbon offset firm CO2balance has turned to Berkshire-based Newtons Computer Systems to replace oil lamps in a Mombasa school with LEDs and solar power.

"64 lighting modules, one solar panel and one rechargeable battery covered the whole school, bringing night vision for the people who relied very much in kerosene lamps," company MD Tony Newton told Electronics Weekly.

The lighting modules produce 330 lm from multiple 5mm LEDs.
