Essex-based e2v has announced two broadband mini helix travelling wave tubes (TWTs).
The first operates between 4.5 and 18GHz and is available now, and when it is released later this year, the second will operate a 2-18GHz .
"The 4.5-18GHz TWT offers world leading size, weight and performance figures, whilst the 2-18GHz TWT is unique in its broadband capability," said e2v. "The broadband operation delivers the opportunity to replace multiple tubes within a system with a single tube."
Potential applications include radar, satellite uplinks, electronic countermeasures (ECM) and laboratory testing equipment.
"We developed these tubes specifically as a result of our involvement with the global defence community", said Tony Challis, e2v's TWT product manager. "Feedback from our test results has already been extremely positive, leading to some very interesting electronic countermeasure project proposals."
