Vicor has introduced its first 120W DC-DC bus converter on a 1/32nd brick footprint.

The VIB0101THJ is a 48:12 V surface- mount, non-regulated converter with 94.5% efficiency and can be used to power non-isolated POL converters or as an isolated voltage source for ATE, server, telecom and industrial control applications.

The device, which is little larger than a standard USB connector, has a power density of 840 W/in3.

"The half inch square package enables a low impedance interconnect to the system board and reduces the power system volume by 75 % vs. similar power-level converters," said Steve Oliver vice president of marketing and sales at Vicor's VI Chip division.

The BCM's low impedance SAC enables a 16x capacitance reduction and the package is compatible with standard pick-and-place and surface-mount assembly processes.
