Murata: smallest air pump

Murata has announced an air pump measuring 20x20x1.85mm, without its nozzle.

"The MZB1001 micro-blower is believed to be the smallest air pump in the market," said the firm.

Inside, a piezoelectric diaphragm vibrates up and down when a sine wave voltage is applied.

The vibrations force air into the blower and out through a nozzle on the top.

Airflow up to 0.8 litres per minute is available, and air pressure up to 1.5kPa, when driven by a 15Vp-p 25kHz signal.

"The piezoelectric diaphragm has been optimized for operation above the normal audible range and is typically driven by a 24 to 25kHz signal," said the firm.

Power consumption is typically 0.2W.

Intended applications are aromatic atomizers, air fresheners and similar household smell products.
