DATE 08

The latest news from the DATE 2008 Exhibition and Conference, which caters for electronic system design & test engineers. According to the organisers the focus of the vent ranges from system level hardware and software implementation down to integrated circuit design. Hosted at the ICM, Munich, the 11th such event runs 10-14 March.

Papers for the conference have been organised into four major areas:

  • Design Methods, Tools, Algorithms and Languages
  • Application Design
  • Test Methods, Tools and Innovative Experiences
  • Embedded Software

Keynote speakers are CTO for Thales, Dominique Vernay, talking about the challenges of embedded systems, and Professor Giovanni de Micheli, Director of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and of the Integrated Systems Centre at EPFL, on designing micro/nano systems for a safer, healthier tomorrow.

European Commission-funded research projects at DATE

Among the European Commission-funded research projects are:

  • ATESST addresses system modelling of automotive embedded systems and defines an architecture description language: EAST-ADL2.Its purpose is to achieve a de-facto standard that can complement AUTOSAR regarding abstract and orthogonal aspects such as feature and function definition, requirements, variability and safety.
  • DySCAS looks at self-configurable systems in embedded vehicle electronic systems, responding to future applications which will include simultaneous access to a number of mobile devices and ad-hoc networking with built-in devices.
  • ANGEL aims to provide methods and tools for building complex heterogeneous systems in which short-range wireless sensor and wired communication networks cooperate through a dedicated gateway - with emphasis on improving personal health.
