SiliconBlue Speeds Up Its FPGAs

SiliconBlue, the low-power FPGA start-up, has improved its iCE65 family with 30% faster I/O, PLLs and density over 12,000 logic cells while keeping static power consumption remains below 50µA. SiliconBlue calls the enhanced FPGAs its 'P-series'.

The enhanced capabilities enable applications such as video scaling and multiplexing for multi-display applications up to 720p HD, and complex functions such as timing control and color space manipulation for color reflective displays.

SiliconBlue is looking for applications in smartbooks and e-readers where iCE65 mobileFPGA devices allow designers to use existing mobile application platforms and add differentiating features such as multiple displays and color, eliminating a full system design and validation cycle.

"Designers don't have the time to wait for new application processors, nor can they afford the skyrocketing cost of custom silicon. The new P-Series devices enable designers to implement innovative and differentiating features on existing mobile application platforms, getting them to market in the shortest time possible,"

"Being the first to introduce innovative features is essential in emerging markets," says Kapil Shankar, CEO of SiliconBlue.

The first iCE65 P-Series device will be the iCE65P04, available in two packages: CB196 and CB284, as well as Known Good Die (KGD).

iCE65 mobileFPGA devices aim to combine the flexibility of FPGAs with the low cost, low power and single-chip benefits of ASICs, and offering designers facing tight power, BOM cost, and development time budgets a solution.

SiliconBlue has an L-Series iCE65, which has been optimised for power, and the new P-Series, which improves system performance while maintaining the ASIC-like capabilities of the family.
