Atmel has said it is working with Nvidia to move multitouch technology to large screen formats.
A reference design has been designed around Nvidia's Tegra 2 mobile processor and Atmel's maXTouch mXT1386 touch controller.
The aim is to support touchscreens up to 15 inches for tablet PCs and netbooks.

It will run on the Android operating system.
Tegra 2 is a dual-core CPU with hardware accelerated flash, and console-quality gaming with a GeForce) GPU.
Atmel's chipset will support up to 16-simultaneous touches.
"Atmel and NVIDIA have made many performance and accuracy improvements to make this solution ideal for tablet PC applications," said Jon Kiachian, senior director of touch marketing, Atmel.
Nvidia announced this week that Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Tab 10.1, a 10.1-inch screen tablet uses the Tegra 2 chip.
Important to that design-in was support for the Android 3.0 (also known as Honeycomb) user interface
