Tensilica has partnered with German mobile software firm mimoOn to demonstrate an LTE user system and eNodeB PHY with real-time downlink and uplink traffic.

The software programmable radio demo is built on Tensilica's Atlas LTE reference platform implementing the ConnX BBE16 digital signal processor and Tensilica Dataplane Processors.

The demonstration at the Mobile World Congress, February 27-March 1, in Barcelona, Spain will use mimoOn's mi!MobilePHY software for LTE handsets and their LTE Intermediate Library, which has been ported to Tensilica's ConnX DPUs.

"We were able to test our complete LTE software solution and prove that Tensilica's hardware has sufficient processing capability to handle all of the requirements of this demanding application," said Brian Meads, mimoOn's v-p of marketing.

"Through the three years we have been working with Tensilica, they have been able to further optimize their cores to provide an even smaller power/area footprint," said Meads.

"With well-tuned hardware and software, our customers can quickly and easily develop their programmable LTE modems," said Eric Dewannain, Tensilica's v-p and general manager, baseband business unit.

Germany-based mimoOn develops and licenses LTE software IP for mobile devices & wireless infrastructure.

mimoOn's portfolio of products includes Physical Layer (PHY) and Protocol Stack (L2/L3) for mobile terminals, small cells (Pico/Femto) and IP development in the areas of advanced PHY algorithms on multi-core SDR platforms, SON, schedulers and radio resource management.
