
Nvidia has reported a jump in revenues in the second quarter on the back of strong demand for its GeForce graphics chips.
But the processor developer has its eyes firmly set on the mobile market, and its Tegra 2 applications processors are being designed into smartphones and tablets.
During the quarter Tegra was designed in to six smartphones, up from two in the previous quarter, including the Motorola Photon 4G and Samsung Galaxy R.
It was also designed into four tablets, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
It also launched the GeForce GTX 580M for gaming notebooks.
Nvidia reported revenues of $1.02bn for the quarter ended July 31, this was 5.7% from Q1 and 25.3% higher than a year ago.
"Consumer demand for notebooks powered by our GeForce GPU resulted in record revenue for these products,” said Jen-Hsun Huang, NVIDIA president and chief executive officer.
"The future of computing is mobile and visual. With Tegra's momentum and our growing GPU businesses, we are ideally positioned to lead the industry forward," said Huang.
Net income was also higher at $151.6m for the quarter.
During the quarter Nvidia completed the acquisition of Bristol-based mobile chip developer Icera.
The company expects Q3 revenue to be up 4 to 6% from Q2.
