Queens Awards get change of emphasis Richard Wilson The Queen's Awards Scheme, which rewards the export and technology achievements of UK firms, have been renamed and given a new emphasis on innovation and enterprise. A six-month review of the annual business awards has recommended that the scheme be renamed the Queen's Awards for Enterprise and that it should be divided into three new categories. These will be recognition for international trade,
innovation and environmental achievement. "Enterprise and innovation are key elements of the new awards," commented Trade Secretary Stephen Byers. "This is good news for every part of the business community... It is vital for the future of the UK that business is able to close the productivity gap it has with our major competitors." The DTI is now inviting applications from UK firms for the new style awards.
