Microsemi has introduced non-magnetic, 500W transient voltage suppressor (TVS) arrays designed for MRI machines to guard against circuit damage caused by electrostatic discharge, electrical fast transients and the effects of secondary lightning.
"The TVS arrays use non-ferrous metal in their packaging, which makes them suitable for operation in MRI machines and other medical devices that operate in powerful magnetic environments," said Simon Wainwright, v-p of marketing and business development for Microsemi's HiRel Group.
"This capability adds another layer of protection against damaging voltage spikes that can corrupt data in sensitive medical equipment and render inaccurate results that may negatively impact patient health," said Wainwright.
The USBQNM504xx and USBQNM504xxC TVS arrays protect uni- and bi-directional lines, respectively.
The halogen-free devices are offered in a non-ferrous, quad flat no-lead 143-pin metal lead frame. The RoHS-compliant "green" enclosure is also pin-for-pin compatible with SOT-143 packages.
The peak power rating of is 500W for an 8/20µs pulse.
Protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) as defined in IEC 61000-4-2, electrical fast transients (EFT) per IEC 61000-4-4 and effects of secondary lightning
