Free web service on offer for environmental rules

Wednesday 15 February 2006 15:41

Electronics companies in the UK are being offered a free web service to help them keep up to date with environmental rules.

The NetRegs website, set up by the UK’s Environment Agency, will also send email updates on developments in rules that could affect companies in the electronics sector.

The e-alerts will cover legislation such as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive.

Businesses can also choose to receive more general updates on a range of environmental issues.

The Environment Agency said that by ensuring they comply with environmental legislation, smaller electronics manufacturers can avoid the risk of prosecution and also reap significant commercial benefits in terms of cost savings and improved customer relations.

Last year an SME and the environment survey found of over 5,000 UK small businesses, 86 per cent were unable to name any environmental legislation, while almost half (47 per cent) said that they wanted more help and advice on environmental issues.
