Future World Symposium (FWS-2010), an international conference for professionals with a focus on connected, smart and electronically-enabled applications, will be launching 15-16 September in London.

Organised by the UK’s electronics trade association, The National Microelectronics Institute (NMI), the conference and exhibition has been developed to give insight to CxOs, technologists, engineering managers, researchers and designers.

According to the organisers, the two day conference "seeks to unveil the paths of global technological innovation throughout the next decade".

Market areas of particular interest for 2010 are:

  • Mobile, Wireless & Communications
  • Personal Computing
  • Digital Media & Home
  • Transport

The NMI has announced the symposium’s first keynote speakers, who will present on the future of mobility and connected devices:
• The Road to 2020: More connected systems (Telefonica 02 - Dr. Mike Short, VP R&D)
• The LTE Revolution (ST Ericsson – Bjorn Ekerlund, Head of Ecosystems and Research)
• Location aware: beyond navigation  (CSR – Kanwar Chadha, CMO/Member of Board of Directors)

Further speakers and panel sessions will be announced throughout the run up to the event.

Note that a panel debate on open source models will also take place at the Future World Symposium. Entitled ‘The disruptive effect of open source’ the session has been created to bring a fresh perspective on the far reaching consequences for traditional commercial models. It will examine the benefits and tradeoffs that open source brings and address how companies can simultaneously scale innovation and deliver profits using the approach.

The panel will be chaired by the journalist, author and open source advocate Glyn Moody.

The venue for the event will be Lord’s Cricket Ground, and a conference dinner is also available for delegates to attend on the evening of September 15th.

Full details on the agenda, travel, accommodation and registration can be found on the Future World Symposium website.
