CIP releases an uncooled coax reflective InP optical amplifier

CIP Technologies of Suffolk has released an uncooled coax reflective InP optical amplifier.

The amplifier, essentially a laser with only one mirror, offers up to 20dB of gain at 70C and typically better than 60dB of dynamic range.

Originally available in a windowed TO package, this version is in a pigtailed TO-56 can.

"CIP already offers uncooled reflective SOAs [semiconductor optical amplifiers] in TO-can packages for use in modules, but our customers have also been asking for a convenient pigtailed package suitable for early evaluation of WDM-PON architectures," product manager Dr Ian Lealman explained.

"In this configuration, the product is also proving to be an ideal source in a range of fiber optic sensor networks."

WDM-PONs are wavelength division multiplexing passive optical networks.

Dubbed SOA-R-OEC-1550-CO, the device uses CIP's proprietary buried InP heterostructure design, operates across the C-band, and can deliver more than 20dB of gain below 70C.
